Using Google Analytics to Improve Your Website

posted in Uncategorized |

Google Analytics is a valuable website statistics program that is available for free from Google. The program allows you to track web traffic, identify the most frequently viewed pages on your website and even design parameters. The design parameters show you what settings and software visitors to your site are using, such as browser type, screen resolution and Adobe Flash.

Once you’ve signed up for Google Analytics using your Google account, you can use the information to improve your own website. The “Top Content” features shows you what is driving the most traffic to your website. Use that information to tweak or replace less popular pages. Design parameters are extremely important. For example, if the majority of your visitors use Firefox but your webpages are built around Internet Explorer, you’re likely to lose traffic and reduce the number of repeat visitors. A Google Analytics Keywords report shows you what words or phrases drive traffic to the website, helping you build an effective marketing strategy around the terms your users search for. The “Bounce Rate” feature can tell you if there’s a major problem with your website. The Bounce Rate is the portion of your website’s visitors who leave without visiting another page on your website.
